Howdy,
I'm fairly new to the forum. I'd been gassing for a KR12 for a few years now, and was finally able to pull the trigger on a used natural wood cab combo from TGP.net last May. Played it a bit on some gigs over the summer, but it wasn't quite right?! So I finally had a chance to get up to Lou's a few weeks ago to have her tweaked. The first KR12 I tried was @ www.EuphoriaNYC.com that sounded ridiculous, and that's where and when I got the GAS bug for one big time! Mines an early one from 2000/2001 and Lou had modded it w/ the new master, NF control and tranny and tweaked it for the previous owner, but it wasn't quite right for me. After playing it a bit for Lou, he figuring out what was up w/ it, and I told him what I was after. He quickly made a few minor changes - 1. changed input jacks (it was crackling on the last gig I played it on, and losing the gain/vol too? 2. brightened her up a bit (she was just way too dark for me), 3. put in a new 12ax7 for the tone stack (v2 - really opened up the tone controls. Like pulling off a wet blanket!). She's a whole new beast now?! Used her on a gig @ The Highline in NYC last week and really got to open her up (from 6 to 8 on the master in gain input 1) and she became a fire breathing roaring beast! Now she's got total Tweed-ish goddess in the normal channel and flame throwing Plexi in the gain 1 channel w/ my Menatone Blue Collar! Then when you start stacking the gain stages w/ a dummy plug, she just keeps getting bigger & better...
Lou, you're creating some timeless masterpieces for sure! I only wish you had more than the one 3/4 built Tremolux in the shop to tryout?! It was great, but had no trem as of yet, and I'd had my mind's eye on trying the Mini Blues Breaker, the Buster and the Ferrari? Next time I hope?! peace J
Lou, thanks again for your time and the awesome hang. It was really great to meet you and watch you work your magic... rock on! |

I cab only echo your sentiments.
My KR12 is from around that same period, only with the 100 year old pine cab.
The amp was amzing as it was, but Lou went through it and added ALL the upgrades. Now it's even more ridiculous.. This new Master Volume circuit is absolutely outstanding!
I think the most dramatic change came after replacing the old negative feedback pot with one with one that sounds like it has an almost infinite sweep.
It's firebreathing beast!
I just bought a Tremoverb that I literally CANNOT STOP PLAYING. I never heard anything like this amp ever! |
