I've always been enamored with simple, amazing sounding combo amps. Call it Mike Bloomfield syndrome.
There's just something about that old equation guitar+chord+amp=magic.
So, it's no surprize I've had major Tremverb gas since first discovering Louis Electric.
Don't be mislead by Tremverbs description on Lou's site as being a Setzer jump/swing amp.
It is so much more.
I love the simplicity of the amp.
The Tremverb has to be the ultimate no frills, plug in and play amp, with tone that's straight from God.
It has the trademark Louis Electric warmth and richness; but this amp takes 3D tone to a completely different dimension that I could never put into words.
The picking dynamics in the Tremverb are insanely sensitive.
Pick very softy, and it's like being gently kissed by a beautiful woman.
Dig in, and without touching a knob the amp jumps up, punches you in the face, and sends you across the room. Very, very cool.
My favorite: The Tremverb is insanely lively! The sites description is spot on.
I've been playing guitar for about 40 years.
The Tremverb is unequivically the liveliest amp I've ever experienced, period.
It's a rare treat to run across an amp that encourages you to play clean and greased lightning fast, straight in with no pedals.
Check out Coco Montoya's youtube clip from the NAAM show to see just lively this amp can be.
The reverb is wonderfully warm sounding. The trem will give you a heart massage.
Both are dead quiet.
Lou made one very slight adjustment to my Tremverb by opening up the feedback slightly which added a little more "hair" to the notes. As usual, it was something very subtle that only Lou's hearing could pick up on, but perfectly suited my style. Good one Lou!
The amp sounds huge. It's a single 12 combo that easily fills the room.
It's nice and bright, but never ever painful.
As you crank the amp the highs become very sweet and creamy, but with plenty of sizzle, just beautiful!
The Bass NEVER farts out regardless of volume, or guitar choice.
This is huge because regardless of where the volume is set, the amp always retains it's trademark big, tight, punchy, low end bounce and lightning fast playing tone.
The Tremverb is not a high gain amp.
The 35 watts (2-6L6's) is the perfect output.
The amp sings and breaks up perfectly as you crank it up.
And, this baby blooms, even at low volumes, which really put a smile on my face.
I don't know if you guys ever listen to Derek and the Dominoes, like I still do after all these years, but at higher volume a Strat through the Tremverb absolutely nails Clapton's tone in "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" and "Key To The Highway" from Layla, only bigger and more.
The Tremverb could just as easily be called the Dickey Betts signiture amp, because with a Les Paul, it flat out nails Dickey's studio guitar tones, especially the Brother and Sisters, Ramblin Man era. Middle position tone to die for. If Dickey heard this amp, he'd buy it on the spot.
The other example that immediately came to mind was Jeff Beck's tone in "She's a Woman" and "Diamond Dust" from "Blow By Blow".
Bringing the amp's volume up to the point where it starts to break-up with a Les Paul will put you squarely in the Live Bloomfield tone zone. (Mike's chops are not included)
Don't let the clean thing scare you. This amp has major balls and absolutely howls the blues when you crank it up!
The Tremverb is the most unique sounding amp I've heard.
It's not Black Face, it's not Tweed, it's not Brown Face, it's not Ampeg. It' a Louis Electric.
You can definitely feel and hear the Tremverb's authentic vintage heritage.
Yet, it's entirely got it's own thing going on.
The amp will excel at whatever you want, or need it to be, blues, classic rock, jazz, country or the Setzer jump thing.
It's "bigger" and "more" than I imagined.
In the short time I've owned the Tremverb, it's made me a better player.
Creatively, I feel like I'm tapped into something else, playing things I've never have before.
The Tremverb is the single best "pure tone" machine I've ever laid my hands on.
I cannot stop playing this amp. It's truely inspirational.
Thanks for another masterpiece Lou!

Awesome review!
And mine arrives tomorrow! Can't wait. I'll have to ask Lou if he made the same tweak to mine as he did to yours. I had mine done up in a custom tolex. I'll post a pic if I can figure out how. lol
Can't wait for Fed Ex!!

Cool! Yours must be Tremverb Lou did in the Baby Blue tolex, AMAZING!
I heard all about it. Lou sounded pretty floored with your finished product.
Congradultions! I'll be really looking foward to hearing your thoughts and review.
I'm not kidding. I can't stop playing this amp! It's the ultimate in pure tone.
I've been so addicted to the clean tone, I haven't even thought about trying a pedal.
But, I'll bet my Zendrives will sound absolutely amazing in this baby.
What guitars will you be using through it?
What music? |
